outsourcing work to graphic designers part two

December 3, 2008

In October I wrote a post asking if graphic designers would join a mailing list to receive work outsourced from eWrite.

There was immediate interest. I use the mailing list to email the details of a business or individual looking for a website to be designed. The email contains all the details of my meeting with a customer, what the customer wants from their website and most importantly their budget.

Some of the designers were concerned that the customer will want a lot of work done for little or no money. When I meet with the customer I make sure they have some idea of the cost they should be aiming at. The aim is to provide great design to a customer at a competitive price, it doesn’t have to cost thousands to create a site that they cannot update later on.

This outsourcing is working very very well. We have 2 site designs almost complete for 2 new and very happy customers. I will write individual posts about them when they are live.

Working with a budget up front gets rid of many worries about money, I work to get everything I can done for a customer within their budget. This includes setting up their domain name, hosting, adding their content to the site designed by the designer, submitting their new site to Google, MSN and Yahoo, mutually linking related business together whenever I can and setting up Google Analytics with a weekly report so they monitor their traffic. Ewrite takes a very modest amount of the budget to project manage the entire process.

There is still plenty to learn about this process, the hardest descision so far is picking out which designer to use if several are interested in the job. I have met most of the designers in person with the aim of learning the styles they are good at and what kind of jobs they like and dislike. It has introduced me to a couple of great new developers up and down the country, I am enjoying the work with them. Some sneak peek images of the site designs below designed by Chris B. Kerndter.
